Professional Learning
We offer bespoke twilight CAT sessions for schools, as well as a programme of fully funded after-school online twilight courses and in-depth Professional Learning leading to GTCS Professional Recognition. All our courses use participatory and active learning methodologies for direct use with learners.
Professional Learning Twilights
We’ve teamed up with our fellow Development Education Centres across Scotland to deliver the next phase of Global Citizenship in Scotland, a new set of online professional learning twilight CLPL courses for 2025. This is now hosted on Signposts and will be continuously updated.
They cover a wide range of issues; including Anti-Racism, Rights, Literacy, The Sustainable Development Goals and more. You’ll find full details of all our twilight sessions here.
GTCS-Accredited Programmes
Our two Professional Learning Programmes are accredited by the GTCS and lead to Professional Recognition in Learning for Sustainability (Global Citizenship).
Learning for a Better Future
Our fully-funded, year-long GTCS accredited Professional Learning programme connects you with like-minded practitioners from across Scotland, taking you on an inspiring and transformational learning journey through Global Citizenship education.
The course runs over the academic year and combines online training, mentoring and reflection sessions with additional professional reading (approximately 10-15 hours) and the development of an enquiry project to be implemented with learners in Term 3.
You will be expected to keep a Learning Journal and course assessments include submission of the final journal entry as well as presentation of your learning to your peers. A mentor is assigned to each participant, who will support you through the process.
Global Storylines
Global Storylines is an in-depth professional learning programme that supports primary teachers to explore complex real-world issues through a drama and inter-disciplinary learning approach.
The programme combines online training with additional professional reading (approximately 10-15 hours) and the implementation of the Global Storyline with your learners.
Course assessments include submission of two sections of the participant learning journal as well as presentation of your learning to your peers during online reflection sessions. You will be assigned a mentor who will support you through the process.
We’re excited to announce that this year we are piloting a new approach to Global Storylines in partnership with Oakgrove Primary, Riverbank Primary and Active Inquiry, through a project funded by the Paul Hamlyn foundation. For further details, please contact diana@wosdec.org.uk.
